Welcome to the FBC Melbourne English as a Second Language Ministry.
We realize it is not easy to leave your country, move to the United States, and begin learning a new way of life as well as a new language. English as a Second Language classes here at First Baptist Melbourne will help you learn and improve conversational English in a fun and relaxed way. This will help you communicate with other people who speak English – at work, at school, in your family, and in your community.
Our teachers are qualified ESL volunteers. Several of them have a background in public school teaching, and each of them has a love for people of the nations. We enjoy meeting with students from different countries each week. Our goal is to share God’s love and the life-changing gospel of Jesus with people of all nations through English language learning.
We offer Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and U.S. Citizenship classes for adults, age 18 and older. To take Citizenship classes, you should be a U.S. resident for at least four years (green card) or at least two years if married to a U.S. citizen, AND be an intermediate or advanced English speaker. All classes meet on Thursday nights from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. in the main building on the second floor. They are FREE with a $20 materials fee for each student. We also provide FREE childcare for children in 6th grade and younger while classes meet.
The ESL 2025-2026 Class Year is from August to May. Registration Night is Aug. 21st from 6:30-8:30, and classes begin the following week. New students may join on any Thursday night until the end of February. When you arrive, you’ll complete a Registration Form, and one of our teachers will ask you some questions to help us choose the best class level for you. When you come into the main parking lot from Dairy Road, park in front of the Worship Center (with the large glass windows). Once you are in the lobby, take the stairs to the second floor and we will be there to welcome you.
We look forward to getting to know you!
